Newsletter Guidelines
by
Tricia Kirk (email)
The
Friends of Fern Tree Gully publishes the "The Village News"
in February, May, July, September and
the special Fair Editon in November.
To help make this process less time consuming for our volunteers
the following guidelines have been developed
Submitting
Articles
Please submit all articles produced in a word processor for example
Microsoft Word or WordPerfect using the Australian English Dictionary.
If you do not know how to do this feell free to send me an email
with "Help FOFTG" within the subject
line.
Handwritten
articles are not generally accepted.
Please
use a spell checker before saving and sending.
All articles are 'copied and pasted' into our Newsletter and I do
not always see spelling errors (no not even obvious ones!)
I do not check for grammar mistakes, articles are
normally used 'as is' other than possible editing of length. Articles
up to 250 words are generally acceptable.
Save
your documents with a descriptive title - eg
"FTG Basketball Club News.doc" or "FTG Basketball
Club Up Coming Events.doc" etc.
This helps me to locate your article quickly for inclusion.
Please do not send your information within the email itself
- attach the information in a word processing file and only an introduction
in the email body.
Comments you wish to include can be placed in brackets and marked
bold at the top of your article.
Example:
(Comments: Please add to photo Joe Bloggs pictured with
Jane Citizen)
No
formatting except for Bold, Italic or Underline
No spaces or tabs to align text, one "enter"
between paragraphs. Please do not use ALL CAPITALS
Email the attachment with the words 'Friends
of FTG' somewhere within the email's subject line.
If
you wish a particular font to be used (in the headings only) please
let me know, I will ask for you to send that font if I do not already
have it on file. (Please note that some fonts and colours are
not suitable due to the printing process.)
Ideally
send photos separately, NOT within the word processing document.

Photos/Logos
(back)
Photos are best sent untouched - except for cropping
If the photos are large (in file size) send them in the .jpg format.
If the photos are bad I'll "fix" them as best I can. I
however can't perform miracles, blurry photos will remain so :)
Artwork
(logos etc) copy of originals are ideal.
When sending photos accompanying submitted articles, please provide
captions that clearly describe what action is taking place in the
photos.
Please
note: It is helpful if the image files also have descriptive
filenames. eg "ftg basketball logo.jpg"
Ideally
send photos separately, NOT within a word processing document.

Advertising
(back)
Business Cards are scanned - which means they are made into a "picture".
Therefore any changes eg "specials" need to be clearly
drawn within a rectangle with the layout required. Or preferably
emailed to me directly.
If
you wish a particular font to be used please let me know, I will
ask for you to send that font if I do not already have it on file.
(Please note that some fonts and colours are not suitable due
to the printing process.)
Currently the Friends of Fern Tree Gully Newsletter is restricted
to approximately 20 ads per issue.
